Atiamuri Lake
We’ve marked off a few places of interest for boaties staying at our Atiamuri Holiday Home.
Atiamuri lake is perfect for wakeboarding providing an arm north & east, going options on a windy day. Two locations are marked to give you an idea of where to turn around on each arm; generally with the east arm, I suggest turning around before the power lines if you are unsure of the underwater terrain or obstacles.
North arm: just keep center of the lake, during season there are ski lanes before the turn around spot. There is also a water trampoline
East arm: Keep to the north of the lake, but it’s safe to turn around, just watch out for any rocks and shallower water on the south side.
Ohakuri Lake
From the boat ramp, if you head up the north arm, there is a small beach area to setup camp (in lower lake levels) and then you can boat north. Going further north, you can take a slow tiki tour to bridge and perhaps do some small bridge jumps.
if you continue east, marked on the map you will find Paradise, a hot spring where many boaties stop at the end of the day, relax in the hot water (depends on many factors) and enjoy a drink or two. Please ensure you take all rubbish with you as this is a slice of paradise we all enjoy.
Continue east from paradise, you have the squeeze, a nice walk between two rock cliff faces, with slow running warm water. Reach the gravel stream and make your way to the hot waterfall. Take a stroll up the bank to the top of the waterfall and enjoy the hot pool.
Travel further east past Orakei Korako and just around the bend, you will find a steaming beach and the Hot Baths. Please be very careful as there is bubbling hot water in areas of the sand, plus the water can become very hot in the bath area so be ready to leave quickly if this does happen.
A pretty dangerous climb up the slippery rocks, you will find a few terraced hot pools and a bubbling extremely hot geyser. I dont suggest anyone do this as it is very dangerous and is very actives so being able to get away quickly is important.
